Why Volunteer?

People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.

Volunteer services are an important part of the Alpine Agency on Aging.  We are looking for individuals who are committed and willing to serve their community will find rewarding volunteer opportunities here.

Volunteer Opportunities

Alpine Area RSVP – Seeking volunteers who are 55+ in Eagle County.  Alpine Area RSVP volunteers can volunteer at any non-profit or government program within Eagle county.

Caregiver/Companion – Seeking volunteers to be companions for older adults and a support for family caregivers.  These individuals are not hands-on caregivers but may provide friendly conversation, arts and crafts, outings for the older adult, watch television, play games, listen to music and share memories.  They support the caregiver by giving them peace of mind that their loved one is being watched over while they get respite from their caregiving responsibilities.

Medicare Counselors – Seeking individuals who are willing to become trained in providing one-on-one counseling on Medicare options and fraud prevention.  The volunteer may also choose to provide information at health fairs and public information gatherings.

Long-term Care Ombudsman – Seeking volunteers to assist with scheduled visitation to long-term care facilities in Eagle, Pitkin and Grand counties.  The volunteer will meet with residents to ensure their safety and welfare and help to resolve any care issues. Training is available.

The Regional Advisory Council (RAC) advocates for seniors, addresses issues of concern to the older adult population, and encourages the development of a comprehensive system of services in the region.
